Emergency work to repair landslip will significantly reduce services between Woking and Basingstoke next week
South Western Railway and Network Rail have issued a joint release this morning (see link and below) regarding a significant impact to our services between Woking and Basingstoke next week. This is because of emergency repair work taking place to stabilise an area of embankment which has seen movement over recent days, in order to make it safe. The days which will see the greatest impact are Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December.
You can find more information about the landslip and how it will affect our services, including a brief explainer video, on our website. Our Plan My Journey page also has a summary of the impact on affected services (scroll down to “Network Updates” and select the dropdown labelled “Landslip repairs between Brookwood and Woking”).
Other SWR services which do not pass through this part of the network (e.g. suburban services in SW London) are not affected by this issue. Services between Portsmouth and London via Guildford are also not affected as the slip is to the west of where these trains join the main line at Woking.
